Kelsen has been awarded the first-ever Sustainability Leaders Award by EMSTEEL, one of the largest publicly traded steel and building materials companies in the Middle East and a recognized leader in the region’s industrial decarbonization efforts.
The award was presented during an online ceremony held as part of EMSTEEL’s Sustainability Leaders Award Program. Through this initiative, EMSTEEL reinforces its commitment to sustainability across its entire value chain, promoting collaboration with suppliers and partners who actively contribute to advancing environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance.
Headquartered in Abu Dhabi, EMSTEEL plays a key role in supporting the region’s infrastructure and industrial development, while placing sustainability at the core of its strategy. The company has been actively driving initiatives to reduce carbon emissions, improve resource efficiency and accelerate the transition towards more sustainable steel production, positioning itself as a benchmark for responsible industrial transformation in the Middle East.
Kelsen was invited to participate in the program through a comprehensive ESG evaluation process. This included the submission of detailed information on corporate policies such as sustainability, ethical conduct, and responsible sourcing, alongside environmental and social performance indicators. The company also contributed its Ecovadis Gold Medal certification and shared key sustainability initiatives developed both at Kelsen level and within the broader Calcinor Group.
At Kelsen level, the company highlighted initiatives focused on improving energy efficiency and reducing environmental impact, such as the installation of a heat recovery system in its production processes. In addition, Kelsen participates in collaborative industrial innovation projects such as H-Acero, aimed at advancing more sustainable steelmaking practices.
At group level, Kelsen presented several strategic initiatives led by Calcinor, including the development of slag valorization solutions that support circular economy approaches within the steel industry, as well as the ongoing collaboration with Enagas to advance industrial decarbonization projects linked to CO₂ management.
During the ceremony, EMSTEEL highlighted Kelsen’s strong overall performance, awarding a score of 90 points in the ESG assessment. The recognition was based on three key factors: robust ESG governance and reporting, the implementation of tangible sustainability initiatives, and the achievement of the Ecovadis Gold rating.
This recognition reinforces Kelsen’s role as a trusted supplier to leading steelmakers such as EMSTEEL, contributing to more sustainable industrial value chains. It also reflects the alignment between both organizations in their commitment to innovation, sustainability and the transformation of the steel industry towards a lower-carbon future.
